Less than a year between posts?!

And yet, not a tremendous amount of change. I continue to work with the UW-Panthers Arena, but I’ve been promoted to Content Manager – essentially I’m now more a point of contact for clients – sports teams, corporate clients, and the educational institutions we host for graduation ceremonies.
I’m now in charge of making sure their video and graphic assets get to the right places, whether displayed via Daktronics Show Control, or presented via Xpression graphics or clips. I’ve also been given some responsibility for design and asset creation, working with client teams on their game ops look, and creating the player headshots for both the Milwaukee Wave Soccer Team and the Milwaukee Admirals Hockey Team. It’s an exciting feeling to be a part of the crowd build for these teams!

On the personal side, we had the opportunity to travel to Germany last August. I’d happily visit Berlin again, and my language skills have grown (but really felt like just a tiny bit.) Our son is now 10 years old, and he is such a joy! He gives me hope.

Shakespeare in the park this summer will be King Lear, held at the Peck Pavillion. I’m again working on the key art and some of the promotional materials. I’ve also been elected President of the Board of Directors. While I’m still a bit awkward speaking to people I don’t know, there is the responsibility of being an active voice for the company. I’m proud to be supporting them.

So, obviously I’m a terrible blogger

Many projects have happened between now and the last time I made an entry. It’s nearly time for Shakespeare in the Park 2017! Once again I was tasked with the program and promotional art, and this year was far more ambitious than before.

The UW-M Panthers Arena saw the addition of the Milwaukee Admirals AHL hockey season, and I designed the scoreboard assets for them, as well as running Daktronics for the bulk of their events. UW-M Panther Basketball returned, using an adjusted scoring template, and Milwaukee Wave soccer went into playoffs!

The Arena is dark for the summer, so I’ve taken up assisting Jim de Koch Films with a short being shot in SE Wisconsin. Links to come when they are available.

Keeping busy!

I’ll admit, I’m not the best blogger, but that doesn’t mean I’m not doing anything.
A Kickstarter project, for Murders & Acquisitions has just launched. It’s a tabletop RPG, and it’s a lot of fun.

I did the video, and you can see it here!

Optimist Theatre continues its efforts in presenting Shakespeare in the Park free to Milwaukee audiences. We celebrated Shakespeare’s 452nd Birthday with a fundraiser. A cast announcement is coming soon for this summer’s production of Julius Caesar.

In Milwaukee Panther Arena news, the Milwaukee Admirals will be moving from the Bradley Center to the Arena this fall. Lots of prep work and an increased schedule for their season this fall!

The Wisconsin Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony was April 30th, honoring Jerry Kramer, Bo Ryan, Herb Kohl, and Donald Driver.

Finally, St. Thomas Aquinas Academy will be having a fundraiser on May 14th, and the video for that event (also to be repurposed for marketing) is nearly done. No link yet, but pending approval.

The Reinventing Wheel

Live sound effects for Radio WHT's Nutcracker Part 3 on WMSE Radio

Live sound effects for Radio WHT’s Nutcracker Part 3 on WMSE Radio

The turn of the year often finds us reflecting back on what worked, and what didn’t, and trying to evaluate which steps to take to improve. New Year’s Resolutions – weight-loss schemes, self-help promises, and all that.

And, suddenly, to the public at-large at least, we find ourselves mourning David Bowie. Bowie, who knew he ways dying (and aren’t we all heading in that direction?), orchestrated one last album, his 25th, released in conjunction with his birthday, and just days before his death.

Facebook and Twitter have been filled with tributes, statements, music and art, both Bowie’s, his collaborators, and his fans. It’s been a marvel to look at his impact, and watch how he kept true to himself, but was always someone different. Each new project he presented represented himself as something new.

So I think that will be my goal for this year. To ride the wheel of reinvention. To be myself, but to also be someone new. Renewed. Certainly change comes, whether we’re ready or not, and I hope to be able to not only weather it, but to welcome it.

Changes will be happening here, too. A new look, updated content, a fresh view on who pixelsandtape is, and where it is going.

Some nice press about Hangman Radio from the Shepherd Express
The next show at Shaker’s Cigar Bar will be January 24, 2016.

I’ll also be filling in for Chris Knapp, doing foley for Radio WHT’s Nutcracker, Part III, on WMSE (Milwaukee Area FM 91.7, or online at wmse.org) early January 3, 2016 at 8:30AM. If you’re at church, or asleep, it’ll be archived online, too.

While I adore doing live foley effects for these shows, it’s a bit too much of a niche to make a living, so I’m looking to supplement with some freelance video editing and voice over work. Please contact me if you have project work available.

Voice Over, Video and a Side of Theatre

That’s the tag on my @pixelsandtape Twitter account.

So here’s what’s new:

I’ve been doing live foley effects  for Hangman Radio out of Shaker’s Cigar Bar in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point. They’ve wrapped their first season (I worked on the last two episodes), and are currently Kickstarting for their second season (first show is now scheduled for September 27th, recorded live at Shaker’s.) Rumor has it I may have a speaking part, in addition to effects!

Optimist Theatre’s Shakespeare in the Park production of  A Midsummer Night’s Dream was a rousing success. Lots of great reviews in the press, great weather for our audiences (excepting only one night this year), and continuing to build on previous seasons. I’m proud to say I designed the poster and program art for The Dream. Thanks to Shayne Steliga (Lysander) for being a great model. Posters (11×17) should still be available through Optimist. While a show for next season hasn’t been selected yet, development plans are going forward. Look for a membership announcement soon!

I’m currently in production mode for both Orphonic Multimedia and Milwaukee Public Theatre for videos. Work for  UWMilwaukee Panther Arena has already started, at least for UW-M Men’s Basketball (schedule TBA), and pre-production for Milwaukee Wave Soccer should begin soon, as well. For Milwaukeeans, the Doors Open Milwaukee event, includes the Arena this year.

Summer holidays are nearly at an end.

And if you’ve taken the time to read this far, or if you’ve poked around on the rest of the posts, please, leave a note!

Shakespeare in the Park: Free to See, Not Free to Produce

Give Us Your Hands If We Be Friends….2029184438_orig

Most of you know now that I am a staunch supporter of free Shakespeare in the Park in Milwaukee, including fundraising.

Today, 4/16, at noon, we are launching an online auction to benefit the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is part of the final fundraising stretch (about 70% of the budget has been raised), and will be part of determining whether the show happens.

If you can, please be generous (Milwaukee fans of the PBS Great TV Auction will not be strangers to the concept of Overbids…). If you can’t right now, please spread the word. We have some great items, and new ones will be added over the next two weeks. Not everything is theatre or arts related, so if you see something that a friend may like, pass it along!

UWM Panthers Arena Scoreboard

It’s January, and a time for new beginnings, right?

In the latter half of 2014, I added the Wisconsin Center District – UWM Panthers Arena to my clients. I’m now trained on Daktronics Show Control software and operating a fantastic new scoreboard for the UWM Panthers Basketball , Milwaukee Wave, and Brew City Bruisers events.

I plan on updating my voice over reels, and potentially adding a character voice reel. I have an improv theatre background, I love animation, and would love to add animation work to my portfolio.
